Questions to ask when choosing a physical therapist:

Just like any other profession, there is a wide variety of physical therapists and physical therapy practices to choose from.  If you need physical therapy, but aren’t sure how to decide which therapist is best for you, here are some questions I recommend asking before scheduling:

  1. How often does this therapist work with people with my condition?

  2. Will I work with the same physical therapist every visit? If not who will I see instead (another physical therapist? a physical therapist’s assistant? several other staff members?)

  3. Does this physical therapist utilize aids or techs, or do they carry out the entirety of the treatment sessions themself?

  4. How many clients does this therapist treat at the same time?

  5. How long are the treatment sessions?

  6. Does this physical therapist do hands-on (manual) physical therapy, exercise based physical therapy, or a combination of both?

There aren’t necessarily “right” or “wrong” answers to these questions, but this information will give you an idea of what to expect, and help you to choose the best fit for your needs and preferences.
